Very little in the beggining but a lot in the end. Each person is different of course and it depends where you are going to live to and what you are going to do there. I can only talk about my experience. I went one year to Bristol - UK to take a master of arts in Cinema Studies. Bristol has a giant amount of students from all over the world, so my influences didn't came directly from british culture. I had friends from America, India, China, Spain, Greece and so on... I went to London very often that is the kind of city where you can see all types of style (and people are what they dress and dress what they are). Bristol stores were full of strange clothes but I also lived surrounded by people with a very traditional, simple style. For example most of my university colleagues were very relaxed about fashion. They dressed jeans, tshirts and sneakers every day while I kept always the style I had in Portugal, which means dresses and princess shoes. I was the "cheerleader" of the group but at some point I started dressing leathers leggings (something I promissed I'll never do), painting my nails in black, I started using make up and wearing wigs to a night out.
Of course you change whenever you are, if you are living alone abroad. You care less, you try new things. And so I did. I kept something from my UK days and mainly I learned a lot about fashion just by living in a different environment. I met new stores, new brands and saw many styles different from all I knew. (I can say I wore my little dresses until the last day there, some things never change...)
Here are some of my UK styles. Cheers!
With my mom in Bath. Big Foot ugly boots were a must have in that cold.
My Friend C. called it sassy to this photo. After some tequillas in a Friday out.

Strong make up for the first time in my life!
Leather all over me!!
In Bristol I wore my hoodies up all the time!
So tonight I'm going to be Uma in Pulp Fiction...
Sometimes it was all about being comfortable and warm.
In my last months, feeling totally free with myself and my image.
My last week living in the UK. Red dress and ballerinas and a ponytail.
Yes! This is me!
(Curious to know where did I get any of the garments or accessories you see in the photos? Feel free to ask! I went shopping almost every Saturday I spent there and I learned fast where to find nice things for a short price.)
