It was about time to talk about a Diva in this blog. After BB and Grace Kelly this post is dedicated to the first super model ever: Veruschka. The german model, born in East Prussia, was famous for being extremely tall when related to other models back then: 1,85m. She was discovered at age 20 and started working as a full time model after having studied art. Vera Lehndorff decided to create a new persona for herself: a russian model named Veruschka after being rejected several times in the beginning of her career. A short participation in Antonioni's (must seen movie) Blow Up launched her in acting. The last film where you can see her is Casino Royale from the Bond saga. She stopped working in fashion in 1975 after a disagreement with Grace Mirabella, the editor-in-chief of Vogue but she returned to the catwalks several times. The last one was in 2010 in a Giles Deacon show for London Fashion Week.
I personally think Veruschka has an image like no other and I love to see her photos from the 60's where she always looks so modern. She is not a common blonde girl and you can tell by her work that she always had a free spirit. Today, a 72 year old Veruschka shares a house with three friends and eight cats in Brooklin and mantains her mysterious diva status even being far from the glamour of the past.
